Alex rowed across the greatest ocean of our planet which is  more than twice the size of the Atlantic and covers almost a third of the Earth´s surface for 294 days, 9 hours, 6 minutes, covering 9364 nautical miles, equal to 17342 kilometers.

However, the end was just the beginning and became an examplary metaphor for life. Just 100 kilometers off the Australian coast Alex was caught in the Great East Australian Current and here just short of his   destination, he discovered the true essence of LIFE!!

29 years old, and having spent a lot of his life dreaming, as many of us do, of being someone else, some where else in the world, living a life that is quite different from the often confused and monotonous life of a young person. Alex could not interpret the feelings he had inside, although as they grew he felt more and more the need to take care of them, but had no idea how too!

In 1999 he found, clearly and definitively, how to interpret all those feelings, he had to go, simply, everywhere and any way, to go because he felt that every bit of his body needed to. Needed movement, danger, sacrifice, to find emotions that he couldn´t find in a normal life.

After crossing the Moroccan Desert, the Atlantic and walking across Alaska, in Feb 2008 Alex set out on a journey rowing solo across the Pacific from Lima, Peru to Australia.

Our planet has been covered in so many ways that that the words “explorer,” and “exploration” have completely lost their meaning. Not driven by the desire to conquer new records, make new ones, or write his name on the list of great ocean rowers.

Alex  says “Instead, what everybody can still do (and always will) is to explore themselves, discovering what is deep inside of us, challenging ourselves, finding those hidden and dusty areas of ourselves, discovering ourselves by our travel.

This is the essence of my journey: to discover myself.
